Electrical Panel Upgrades in Dallas–Fort Worth
An undersized, aging, or recalled electrical panel is one of the most common — and most important — problems we fix in DFW homes. Xcel Electrical Services upgrades your panel and service so your home can safely power modern loads like EV chargers, HVAC, and additions, with a clean install that passes inspection the first time.
Your electrical panel is the heart of your home's wiring — it distributes power to every circuit and protects them from overload. Many Dallas–Fort Worth homes still run on 100-amp services or decades-old panels that were never designed for today's electrical demand. As you add EV chargers, larger HVAC systems, hot tubs, or finish out a garage or addition, an undersized panel becomes a real bottleneck and a safety risk.
We upgrade 100-amp services to 200 amps (and larger), replace recalled and fire-prone panels like Federal Pacific and Zinsco, swap out worn meter bases and service entrances, and add sub-panels for dedicated loads. Every upgrade is sized to your home, installed to the latest National Electrical Code and Texas requirements, and coordinated with the utility and inspector so the cutover is smooth and code-compliant.

Panel upgrade questions
How much does an electrical panel upgrade cost?
It depends on your home's current service, the amperage you need, and the condition of your meter and service entrance. After we evaluate your setup we provide a clear, written, no-obligation quote before any work begins — no surprise add-ons. Most DFW homeowners upgrade from 100A to 200A to support EV chargers, HVAC, and additions.
How long does a panel upgrade take?
Most residential panel and service upgrades are completed in a single day. Power is off only for part of that time, and we coordinate the meter reconnect and inspection so you're back up and running quickly.
Do I need to replace a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel?
These panels have a well-documented history of breakers failing to trip, which is a fire hazard. We strongly recommend replacing them. We handle the full swap — panel, breakers, and any worn service components — brought up to current code.
Will a panel upgrade let me add an EV charger?
In most cases, yes. Upgrading to a 200A service and a modern panel gives you the capacity and breaker space for a Level 2 EV charger and other modern loads. We can plan the charger circuit as part of the same project.
